E.A. NELSON BLACKBURN, K.C.

E.A. Nelson Blackburn, K.C., is the retiring senior partner of Blackburn Law, having concluded a distinguished career spanning over 50 years in the legal profession. A longstanding member of the Nova Scotia Bar Society since 1971, Nelson devoted his expertise to serving the Greater Halifax area with integrity and commitment.

Throughout his career, Nelson amassed extensive experience across diverse legal domains, notably in dispute resolution services. He held a certificate in negotiation and conflict management, leveraging his skills to navigate complex legal matters. Nelson served as the Small Business Advocate before the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board on energy-related issues.

Nelson reflects on a rich history of professional engagements. He once served as an arbitrator under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act and was featured on the Minister’s List of Arbitrators. His contributions extended to roles as Vice-Chair of the Labour Board, labour arbitrator/mediator under the Nova Scotia Condominium Act and Chair of the Board of Inquiry under the Human Rights Act, among others.

Nelson's commitment to public service extended beyond his legal practice, as evidenced by his involvement in various provincial boards and community initiatives. He contributed his expertise to organizations such as the Labour Standards Tribunal, Insurance Review Board and Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, among others. Additionally, he actively participated in community endeavours, including the Bedford/Sackville and District Rotary Club and the Neptune Theatre Foundation.

Embodying a philosophy of mentorship and inclusivity, Nelson fostered a welcoming environment at Blackburn Law, prioritizing the development of young lawyers and the well-being of the firm's staff. His dedication to excellence garnered recognition from esteemed legal bodies, including the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society and the Atlantic Provinces Academy of Mediators and Arbitrators, where he was honoured as a Distinguished Neutral for his contributions to the field of law and dispute resolution.
